Grey Blending in Wimbledon Village

Grey, softened into your colour rather than painted over. The first greys at the parting, years of permanent colour you are ready to stop, or silver showing through dark hair — blended by Bobby, our L'Oréal Certified Colour Specialist, in our Wimbledon Village salon. Semi-permanent blending from £84, highlight routes from £109 — and which suits your hair is something only Bobby can judge at your free consultation.

In short

Grey blending at The Village Edit is colour that works with your grey instead of against it — fine highlights, lowlights, a semi-permanent colour or a gloss, placed where the grey sits, so it reads as dimension rather than a line of regrowth. Every blend is created by Bobby, our L'Oréal Certified Colour Specialist, in our salon on the High Street in Wimbledon Village. Semi-permanent blending starts from £84 and highlight routes from £109, confirmed for your hair at a complimentary consultation.

Grey coverage is the other road: permanent colour, an even result, and roots to keep up every few weeks. We do both, and we will tell you honestly which suits you — it depends on how much grey you have, the colour it sits in and the upkeep you want. Full coverage lives on our hair colour page; this one is about blending.

Where are you starting?

Light brown lob with the first silver strands showing at the parting and temples 01

Just the first greys

A few at the parting, more at the temples — too many to ignore, not enough to colour everything. Fine highlights or a semi-permanent blend soften them into your own colour, so there is no line to chase between visits. Which one suits your hair, Bobby tells you at your consultation.

Ready to stop covering it

Years of permanent colour and a root line to chase. Blending is how you stop: lighter pieces woven through and the whole head toned, so the grey comes through as a soft silver rather than a stripe. Sometimes one visit, sometimes staged as the colour grows out — Bobby tells you which.

Grey in dark hair

Silver shows soonest against brown, which is why brunettes ask about blending most. Lowlights, a semi-permanent colour or a gloss soften the silver into the brown instead of painting over it — and what your hair will carry is Bobby’s call, at your consultation.

Grey blending suits most hair, because it is planned for yours — and if you would rather avoid ammonia, L'Oréal’s INOA ammonia-free colour is on the menu. For gentlemen, Colour Blend is on the menu from £55.

Our approach

Softened, not painted over

A blend is only as good as the plan behind it — how much grey, where it sits, what is already on your hair and how often you want to be in the chair. So every one starts the same way.

  1. Consultation & patch test. Free and without obligation. Bobby looks at how much grey you have and where, what colour has been on your hair and when, and asks how much upkeep you want. A patch test at least 48 hours before your first colour with us.
  2. The route, and the price. Highlights, lowlights, a semi-permanent colour or a gloss — Bobby tells you which, and the price comes from the published menu before anything is mixed.
  3. The blend. Placed for your grey — fine pieces where it shows most, tone through the rest — so it reads as dimension rather than a line, with Olaplex bond care where your hair needs it.
  4. The finish. A gloss or toner sets the tone, cool rather than yellow, and the shampoo Bobby recommends keeps it that way between visits.
"The best grey blending is the kind nobody can point to. I would rather soften the line than chase it every few weeks — but it is your hair and your diary, so we decide together at the consultation."

Blend or cover — and what it costs

Every blend begins with a complimentary consultation. Blending has no single price because it has no single method: a semi-permanent colour that softens the grey, fine highlights woven through it, lowlights for darker hair, a gloss to tone it — each a service on our published menu, chosen for your hair. Grey coverage — permanent, even, with roots to maintain — is priced there too.

Grey Blending — from £84. Built from the colour menu, confirmed by Bobby at your free consultation:

  • Hair Consultation Free
  • Full-Head Semi-Permanent Colour — the softest blend from £84
  • Re-growth Colour — roots between visits from £69
  • T-Section Highlights from £109
  • Half-Head Highlights from £125
  • Full-Head Highlights from £159
  • Semi-Permanent Glossing — tone and shine, between blends from £65
  • Toner (with a colour service) £28
  • Ammonia-free option (L'Oréal INOA) £14
  • Olaplex Bonding — optional from £41
  • Colour Blend (Gents) from £55

Every price is a starting point — how much grey you have, your length and the colour already on your hair decide the rest, and only Bobby can judge that at your free consultation.

Grey blending — your questions

How much does grey blending cost in Wimbledon Village?

Grey blending at The Village Edit is built from the colour menu, so the price depends on the route Bobby chooses for your hair: a semi-permanent blend from £84, T-section highlights from £109, half-head from £125, full-head highlights from £159, with a toner at £28 where it is needed. The consultation is free, and you have the price before anything is mixed.

What is the difference between grey blending and grey coverage?

Coverage hides the grey with permanent colour: an even result, and roots to refresh as it grows. Blending softens the grey into your colour with fine highlights, lowlights, a semi-permanent colour or a gloss, so it reads as dimension rather than a line. Which suits you depends on how much grey you have, the colour it sits in and the upkeep you want — Bobby recommends one at your free consultation.

How often will I need to come back?

Less often than coverage is the point — a blend has no hard regrowth line to chase. How far apart your visits sit depends on how much grey you have and the route Bobby chooses, so he tells you at your consultation rather than guessing here. A gloss between blends keeps the tone fresh if you want it.

Can I switch to blending after years of covering my grey?

Yes — it is the most common reason people ask about blending. The permanent colour already on your hair has to be worked with, not ignored: sometimes it is softened and toned in one visit, sometimes the blend is staged as the colour grows out. Bobby looks at what is on your hair and tells you which at your free consultation.

Can you blend grey into dark hair?

Yes. Silver shows soonest against brown, so dark hair is where blending is asked for most and judged most carefully. Lowlights, a semi-permanent colour or a gloss soften the silver into the brown rather than painting over it; which your hair will carry — and how light the blend can go — is Bobby’s call at your consultation.

Will grey blending cover my grey completely?

No, and it is not meant to. Blending softens grey into your colour so it reads as dimension; the grey is still there, just no longer the first thing you see. If you want it gone completely, that is full coverage, on our hair colour page. Bobby tells you honestly which your hair — and your diary — suit.

How long does a grey blending appointment take?

It depends on the route Bobby chooses — a semi-permanent blend, a full head of fine highlights and a staged transition out of permanent colour each take a different afternoon. You will know how long before you book.

Do you blend grey for men?

Yes — Colour Blend for gentlemen is on the menu from £55: a soft blend rather than an obvious block of colour, matched to your own shade by Bobby. Book it on its own or with a cut.

My grey has gone yellow — can you fix it?

Usually, yes. Grey and white hair picks up warmth over time, and a toner or a semi-permanent gloss cools it back towards a clean silver; the right shampoo at home keeps it there. Bobby checks what is causing it first, at your free consultation.

Do I need a patch test before grey blending?

If it is your first colour with us, yes — we carry out a quick patch test at least 48 hours before your appointment. It takes moments, and we arrange it when you book your consultation at the salon in Wimbledon Village.

Is there parking near the salon?

Yes — paid parking is on Belvedere Grove, The Grange, Murray Road and Highbury Road, all via the RingGo app. The Village Edit is at 2 High Street, in the heart of Wimbledon Village, SW19 5DX. See Contact for directions.

Afterwards

Keeping the blend soft

A blend asks less of your diary than coverage, but the tone still wants looking after: the shampoo Bobby recommends to keep silver cool rather than yellow, a gloss between visits where the plan calls for it, and your next appointment set for when your hair needs it, not the calendar.

Elsewhere in the hair menu: the full price list, hair colour (including full grey coverage), highlights, balayage, going blonde, colour correction, cut & blow-dry and keratin smoothing.
