Rated 4.9 from 2,535 verified reviewsBalayage at The Village Edit is a hand-painted, freehand colour technique — lightness woven through the lengths and ends for a soft, lived-in finish that grows out beautifully. Every balayage is created tone by tone, root to tip, by Bobby, our L'Oréal Certified Colour Specialist, in our salon on the High Street in Wimbledon Village. Full-Head Balayage starts from £159, and every appointment begins with a complimentary consultation.
Whether you want a soft blonde balayage that catches the light or a warm, golden balayage with depth and movement, the colour is refined for you in the chair — never chosen from a chart.
Who balayage suits
Balayage suits almost everyone, because it is painted to suit you. It works beautifully on long or short hair, on blonde and warm tones, and on dark and curly hair — on deeper bases the lift is often built gradually over more than one visit to keep your hair healthy.
It is the natural choice if you want lower-maintenance colour: because the lightness is placed away from the root, balayage grows out softly with no harsh regrowth line, so most clients return every three to four months rather than every few weeks. Choose a lived-in, sun-kissed blonde or a richer, high-contrast finish — Bobby will guide you to what suits your hair, your colouring and how you wear it.
Hand-painted, tone by tone
Bobby paints every piece by hand, freehand, placing tone exactly where the light should fall — root to tip, tailored to your cut and how your hair moves. The colour is then perfected with a toner or gloss, and your hair is cared for throughout with Olaplex and Kérastase bond care for strength, softness and shine.
It is colour led by consultation, not by a swatch. We take the time to understand the look you want and what your hair can take healthily, then refine it in real time, for you, in the chair.
"Balayage should look like your own hair, only better. I place every piece by hand, tone by tone, to suit how you actually wear it — not a chart."— Bobby, L'Oréal Certified Colour Specialist
"Bobby is honestly the most skilled hairdresser I have ever had."— Paulina K., verified Fresha review

Balayage — your questions
How much is balayage in Wimbledon Village?
Balayage at The Village Edit in Wimbledon Village starts from £159 for a full head. Your exact price depends on your hair's length and thickness, with optional add-ons such as a toner (£28 with colour) or Olaplex bond care (from £41). Your precise price is confirmed free at your consultation, with no obligation.
How long does balayage take?
A balayage appointment at The Village Edit usually takes between 2 and 4 hours, depending on your hair's length and thickness. Your stylist confirms the timing at your consultation so you can plan your day.
What's the difference between balayage and highlights?
Balayage is hand-painted freehand for a soft, lived-in, low-maintenance grow-out, while traditional highlights use foils for a more uniform, all-over lift. Both Full-Head Balayage and Full-Head Highlights at The Village Edit in Wimbledon Village start from £159, and Bobby recommends the right one for your hair at your consultation.
Does balayage work on dark or curly hair?
Yes — balayage suits dark, warm and curly hair beautifully. On darker hair it is often built gradually over more than one visit to keep the hair healthy. Bobby assesses your hair and explains what is achievable at your free consultation in Wimbledon Village.
How often does balayage need topping up?
Because balayage grows out softly, most clients refresh every three to four months — far less often than foil highlights. A toner or gloss between visits keeps the tone fresh.
Will balayage damage my hair?
Balayage is a lightening service, so we protect your hair throughout with Olaplex and Kérastase bond care for strength, softness and shine. Bobby keeps every service within what your hair can take healthily.
I've never coloured my hair before — where do I start?
Start with a complimentary consultation. If it is your first colour with us, we carry out a patch test at least 48 hours beforehand. There is no obligation — book a consultation with Bobby and we will talk through what your balayage could become. For more booking and patch-test detail, see our FAQs.
Is there parking near the salon?
Yes — paid parking is on Belvedere Grove, The Grange and Highbury Road, all via the RingGo app. The Village Edit is at 2 High Street, in the heart of Wimbledon Village, SW19 5DX. See Contact for directions.
Keeping your balayage soft and bright
Balayage is wonderfully low-maintenance, but a little care keeps it looking salon-fresh: use a sulphate-free, colour-safe shampoo and conditioner, add a weekly bond or moisture treatment, and protect the hair from heat. A toner or gloss every few months refreshes the tone between full appointments — we will recommend the right care for your hair at your visit.
